Job Description

East Main Presbyterian Church seeks a passionate and spiritually-grounded individual to serve as Director of Youth Ministries. This role is responsible for leading and nurturing the spiritual growth of middle and  high school students through Christ-centered programming, discipleship, and relational ministry. The director will work closely with church leadership, volunteers, and families to create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment where youth can explore their faith, build meaningful relationships, and develop a lifelong commitment to following Jesus.

Key Responsibilities

● Plan and oversee weekly small groups for both middle and high school students

● Organize periodic large-group activities, and special events such as retreats, mission trips and  service projects

● Recruit and support adult volunteer leaders, ensuring safe and effective ministry practices

● Collaborate with the pastoral staff and church session to align youth programming with the  broader vision of the church

● Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to support faith development at  home, and work with church staff to integrate youth into the larger life of the church

Qualifications and Expectations

● A strong personal faith and commitment to the Bible as authoritative for faith and living; and the ability to clearly articulate and defend     the faith

● Preference given to candidates with formal education in theology, biblical studies, or related fields

● Youth ministry experience or related work is preferred

● Excellent communication and organizational skills

● An understanding of ECO Presbyterian polity, worship, and theology, or the willingness to learn; and alignment with the mission and values of East Main Church

Short Term Opportunities

Contract (1099)

Hybrid Short-term Position

Rate: $15 / hour, 66 hours total (10-12 weeks)

Description

To assist the Communications Director in creating video and photos for the new website. The candidate must have experience in photo and video editing in Canva and Google photos but skills in formal editing software like Premiere or similar is desired. Knowledge of aspect ratio and sizing for specific outputs and uses is a must. Ability to edit creatively and use music as a creative tool is desired. Beyond producing  videos and photos for website use, interns may also be asked to work in our website editor or help shoot midweek videos if time allows.

Availability Required

Some Sunday mornings and Tuesday/Wednesday evenings on site 

Hours: 5 per week (hours per week can be adjusted based on availability)

Weekly Onsite Work: (2-3 hours per week, then work from home the balance of the time left)

Technology needed: Candidates must have access to a computer capable of the processes required for video editing along with reliable high speed internet. Software can be supplied as needed. Camera and audio gear supplied by East Main Church.

Expectations

Candidates should be able to work independently, be deadline-oriented, flexible, creative, and look to improve the project, not just get it done. They should have great organizational and interpersonal skills. They do not need to be a Christian or attend East Main Church, but be understanding of what we are doing and help us tell our story through video. Candidates will be working in a church setting during services and activities and should navigate children's classrooms, youth group settings, and worship services with respect and the proper level of interaction or subtlety.

Portfolio Requirements

Candidate must have examples of completed videos showing production and post-production skills and examples of photography. Links to videos posted on social channels are acceptable. No formal portfolio website is required.

Plan

Week 1 & 2: Meet staff, determine software skills, onboarding training, software access, review inspirational resources for ideas, assemble ideas

Week 3: Prioritize video & photography projects and schedule shoot dates

Week 4-8: Shoot videos and photos as well as edit and already curated 2025 albums for use in projects

Week 9-12: Edit and produce video and photography projects

Project Completion

At minimum: one short video loop for the home page of our new website and taking and editing multiple photos for use across pages of our new site. Desiring to complete: Home page 'experience' video, Home page, 'Sunday overview video' (how to enter, where to go, what about kids, etc), and montage videos for teen and kids pages.

January – May 2026 Position

Rate $15/hour – 5 hours per week 

Role Overview

Provides essential in-service support, focusing on curriculum review and direct exposure to the execution of  children's programming and Bible-based lesson development, assisting the Children's Ministry Director. Five hours per week  commitment.

Qualifications & Requirements

Statement of Faith: Must possess a vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and fully agree with  our mission and values. Applicants must submit a written Statement of Faith describing their walk, commitment to  Scripture, and theological beliefs.

Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must submit two professional or character letters of recommendation with  their application.

Character & Skills: Highly organized, self-motivated, dependable, and possesses a genuine passion for ministry to  children and families. Strong analytical and communication skills are required.

Safety: Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Schedule: Must be available for 5 hours per week, emphasizing in-person presence during core ministry days (e.g.,  Sunday morning and/or mid-week program).

Core Responsibilities

1. Curriculum and Lesson Engagement 

Review: Review upcoming weekly lessons and provide objective feedback on clarity, theological alignment, and age  appropriateness.

Resource Enhancement: Research and suggest supplemental materials (e.g., videos, illustrations, object lessons) to  enhance core curriculum delivery. 

Content Preparation: Assist in the final assembly of lesson files and media (e.g., loading presentation slides or  organizing digital teaching notes).

2. In-Service Ministerial Presence

Relationship Building: Maintain a visible, active presence during core ministry days to engage children, welcome  first-time families, and build relationships with volunteers.

Behavioral Support: Actively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways to provide essential classroom  management and behavioral support for teachers and volunteers.

Teaching Support: Serve as a co-teacher or assistant in a classroom as needed, focusing on engaging small groups  and facilitating discussion.

Check-In Support: Provide in-person assistance during the child check-in process, focusing on welcoming parents and  ensuring smooth transitions.

3. Light Administrative Support 

Administrative: Check weekly attendance records and assist with basic digital filing. Send follow-up texts/emails to  new families or students who missed programs.

Limited Logistics: Perform very light setup/breakdown tasks directly related to the teaching spaces (e.g., putting  away Bibles, supplies, and snacks). 

Mentorship & Learning Objectives

This internship is a practical ministry training opportunity. The Intern will commit to:

• Participate in brief weekly check-in meetings (15 minutes) with the Children's Ministry Director for guidance and  feedback.

• Gain foundational exposure to how large-scale children's ministry programming is managed.
