2007 Short-Term Experiences
in Partnership and Service (STEPS)
In the summer of 2007, it was our privilege to labor for the
Lord in three short-term experiences in partnership and
service.
A team
of 25 senior high youth and eight adults assisted Urban
Promise in Wilmington, DE. This group worked at kids' day
camps, painted, cleaned at Urban Promise headquarters, did
yard work and landscaping, repaired a porch, finished
drywall, completed a small roofing job, worked with
Wilmington's Park Commission at a city park, and cleaned out
a warehouse at a local church. They also interacted with
UP's street leaders (students from inner-city Wilmington who
work for UP), interacted with UP's interns (college kids who
intern w/ UP for the summer), and attended small groups to
praise & worship together as a youth group.
Another crew composed
of 16 middle school youth and five adults went to Niagara
Falls, NY to work with a youth mission organization called
Youth Works. Students were the hands and feet of Jesus
while serving at local Vacation Bible Schools, soup
kitchens, Elder Care ministries, the Salvation Army, and day
care camps for kids.
A third
group of 14 adults and five high school students from East
Main joined Lifting Burdens Ministry in Mexico for a week.
This group worked on the framing of a three room school and
ran Vacation Bible School for approximately 25-30 children
each day.
