Lives of Worship
At East Main we affirm that worship is far more than a Sunday morning activity. It is a whole life posture. God never ceases to be worthy of praise. Neither is He concerned to inform and shape only a portion of our lives. New life in Christ is a comprehensive reality that leaves nothing untouched.
In this sense, we also believe that Christian worship is a highly subversive act. It unmasks our selfish fixation, exalts God instead as the source of life, awakens our will to a constructive vision of His coming kingdom, and binds us together as a community of service and witness. The contemporary conversation about worship has far too often been lost in me-centered concerns over style, experience, and comfort, rather than how we might more fervently yield to God’s redemptive work, as He fashions a people committed to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.
As worship seeks to develop a whole life awareness of God’s presence, power, and purpose, we come to embrace more fully who we are as well. While countless voices compete to label and limit us, God instead invites us to see ourselves and others through the singular lens of His grace. The great challenge of the Christian life is to live into this shared identity in Christ. The resultant freedom to love across our differences, be they generational or socio-economic, cultural or political, personality or opinion, is what enables the Church to become a courageous community of hope and healing in a fractured world.
Regular times set aside for worship focus our attention upon these truths in order that we might more fervently yield our hearts, minds, and wills to the Lord. Yet, while worship aims to grow our faith in God, we are convinced that the capacity to trust in the Lord is a gift that God alone can give. Therefore, we gather in an attitude of expectant humility before the living God. We seek to be guided by His Word. We are intent to listen for the voice of His Spirit. We worship that we might better know and bear witness to His steadfast love and power in the world, and so with the Psalmist we pray...
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Behold, as the eyes of servants
Look to the hand of their master,
As the eyes of a maidservant
To the hand of her mistress,
So our eyes look to the Lord our God,
‘til He has mercy upon us.
Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us…”

Contemporary Worship
For those who prefer a worship style that uses contemporary Christian music in a casual atmosphere, we feature music led by our Praise Team, which is a group of vocalists and instrumentalists who enjoy leading our congregation in worshipping the Lord. Come as you are! We'd love to meet you, so introduce yourself to one of our ushers or worship leaders so we can help you get to know us. Childcare is available.
Traditional Worship
We also offer a worship service in a traditional style that utilizes an organ, choral music, hymn singing, and a more classic liturgy to worship the Lord. We often feature special music such as bells, soloists, and orchestral instruments. Come early so you can first join us for Sunday School. We'd love to meet you, so introduce yourself to one of our ushers or worship leaders so we can help you get to know us. Childcare is available.
